  • Job opportunities

  • Higher Wages

  • Future prospects

  • Family

To do: Migration questions

  1. How many people migrated to Australia in 2024?

  2. What are the main reasons (pull factors) for people to move to Australia?

  3. What are the reasons that you would move from Adelaide?

1. Forced migration

Activity 1. Refugee camp organiser

A refugee is someone who has left their home and their country. Often refugees do not have possessions with them and do not know where they will finally settle.

According to the UNHCR Global Trends, there are 42.7 million refugees worldwide.

To do: Refugee camp plan

You are a Humanitarian Officer

A previously unknown volcano has erupted in Hawthorndene and only 1000 people have survived.

The survivors cannot live in Hawthorndene any more, it will be uninhabitable for 6 months.

The survivors must move to a newly established Refugee camp in the Belair National Park (BNP).

Because of possible infection, they cannot leave.

You must come up with a comprehensive plan (PowerPoint, word or poster) to establish a camp in the Belair National Park

You will present your plan to the crisis managers.

The Brief - include the following information in your proposal.

1. Location

Select a suitable site for the refugee camp at the BNP. Explain why you chose this location..

Use Google maps for clear satellite images (change the base map to Imagery)

2. Facilities

Make a list of all of the facilities that your Refugee Camp will require, including sanitation, kitchens, medical facilities and recreational areas. Explain the reasons for your choices.

3. Site plan.

Create the layout for the refugee camp and include it in your presentation - the more detail the better!

REMEMBER THERE ARE 1000 PEOPLE REQUIRING USE OF THE RESOURCES/ SPACE THROUGHOUT EACH DAY
