Task 2. Disparities Fieldwork
Task brief: Use ABS data and fieldwork to identify evidence of disparities in SA.
The State Government is commissioning expert Geographers to investigate disparities in wellbeing between different localities in South Australia.
You are required to produce a report examining disparities between your suburb and another SA community.
Your report must include the following.
Introduction to report
Fieldwork methodology
Discussion of results.
a. ABS indicator analysis
b. Residential survey results analysis
c. Shopping centre survey results analysis
How to do the Disparities task
Part 1. Introduction
Define disparities / what are the causes? / what are the impacts?
Report aims
A brief description of the geography and history of the two locations.
That includes a map and satellite image of the two locations
Map(s) identifying the the fieldwork sites
Part 2. Methodology
The methodology is a description of the research methods used in the fieldwork. This section should not include your findings, but a table describing and evaluating the methods you used in the fieldwork. Example below.
In addition, you should include the survey tables for the residential and shopping centre surveys
Part 3. Discussion of results.
Present and analyse data collected in the field, using visual representations such as tabulating, graphing, constructing diagrams, annotating sketches and photographs, and mapping.
ABS indicator analysis
Use the ABS indicator analysis from the classwork to describe the evidence for disparities between the two locations using graphs, maps and census data.
Residential survey analysis
Describe the results of the residential bi polar survey to identify evidence of urban stress that could be linked to disparities.
Shopping centre survey analysis
Describe the results of the shopping centre survey to identify evidence a lack of services and economic and social disparities.
Part 4. Recommendations
Discuss the principal findings using data collected in the fieldwork
Make recommendations, conclusions, or proposed future actions
